Seems it was not listed as a priority release, radio haven't really bothered picking it up (even though some of them began playing it when it was released in the UK in 2004), and they didn't bother changing the image of the cover to differ from the UK one (pictured).

Which, if you can't remember, is really fucking shit.

So this week, the Terrific Tuesday Single Of The Week is my "Purchase Of The Week".

Collectively, we may be able to crack the girls into the Top 50 this Sunday evening.

Find out which stores are actually bothering to stock the single, and buy yourself a copy. Or, If need be, purchase it online through the sanity.com.au online store. Sales from HMV.com.au or HMV Stores DO NOT COUNT TOWARDS THE ARIA CHARTS, so your best bet is to try a Sanity or through their online store.

PURCHASE "THE SHOW" FROM SANITY.COM.AU

And while you're there...
PURCHASE "BIOLOGY" FROM SANITY.COM.AU
PURCHASE THE "CHEMISTRY" ALBUM FROM SANITY.COM.AU

The chances of our dear girls returning later this year for some club gigs is looking less likely as the days go by, but surely we can all hold onto some hope, right?

I mean, even if we are setting ourselves up for disappointment.

=(

Please go and buy it.

You've Got Mail

So... here's the email that's been shipped off today to Universal Music Australia and Polydor UK.

-----Original Message-----
From: Adem Ali
Sent: Thursday, 7 March 2006 10:30 AM
To: Universal Music Australia, Polydor UK
Subject: Girls Aloud's Australian Visit

To Whom It May Concern;

Hello. My name is Adem Ali. I'm a pop music journalist and radio announcer in Geelong, Victoria, over in Australia, and I'm emailing you to discuss the disappointment felt by fans over Girls Aloud's recent Australian Promotional trip. I am sending this email to both Polydor UK and also to the Offices at Universal Music Australia.

I run the only Australian based Girls Aloud website on the web (www.girlsaloudinoz.be) - so during their promotional visit - and the weeks leading up to it - I had received quite a few emails from fans requesting details of the girls' stay. Where would they be appearing, what radio stations would they be interviewed on, etc.

Doing three TV shows and some radio over a five day course has obviously not done them many favours. "Biology" debuted at a poor #26 (I don't have to tell you that it doesn't take many sales these days in Australia to get into the top 10, so scoring a number #26 does not reflect well at all), and this week has dropped to number #30. A lot of the fans - including myself - are hoping for a Sugababes infused miracle. "Push The Button" debuted low, went lower in its second week, and slowly began to rise from the bottom end of the chart to eventually achieve a number #3 position. But those fans are also cautious and well aware this is probably not going to happen.

It's extremely sad that Australia, a country who's current Number #1 album is a prime example of why music should probably be outlawed when in the hands of the careless, cannot see the sheer brilliance that is "Biology".

But how are they meant to know of it if they haven't even HEARD it?

The Australian schedule was, as mentioned, less than impressive. Three television shows - two of which the average YOUNG pop music fan in Australia is NOT going to watch (two morning shows - most kids are either on their way to school, actually already at school or watching cartoons or on their way to university - unaware of whatever it is that's going on over on the morning shows). Although I definitely commend the Girls' appearance on Channel [V], there are a handful of shows the girls SHOULD have been on whilst down under.

Music Channels: The girls covered Channel [V], but we also have an MTV and a Music Max, which the girls should have appeared on. As for music shows, Video Hits on Free-to-air Channel 10 should have at least had them guest hosting with that idiot Axle Whitehead.

Morning Shows: The girls covered Sunrise and 9AM, but there were also other highly top rating shows such as Today, and Mornings with Kerri-Ann, who I can assure you would have given the girls their most fun Australian Performance (she's quite the character that Kerri-Ann).

Radio: As far as I was aware, the only Melbourne radio interview was on Gay & Lesbian Radio Station Joy FM. Did ANY of the commercial networks or even any of the regional community radio stations show any interest in an offer? I work in radio and I did not receive an interview request and my show is pop music orientated. My show - and the community station it plays on - is probably the only show & station in the country who has been playing Girls Aloud on a daily basis for the last year, but there you go.

Other TV Shows: The girls SHOULD have done Rove Live. It would have been the perfect platform for them, the single and album. Dancing with the stars would have been nice also, 2 Million viewers is always a good launching pad - look what it did this week album and singles wise for Westlife.

Meeting the fans: Where were the instore appearances?? There should have at least been 2 of them - one in Sydney and one in Melbourne. It was a perfect opportunity to generate some new fans, and instore's - in the past - tend to do this. Again, look at Westlife's number #1 album this week after doing a few instores.

Can you understand why so many Australian fans are slightly annoyed? Some may argue that "Biology" was not the right song to go with as a first "proper" Australian single (I am well aware the Girls have had semi-hits here before but this was the first proper crack with them bothering to come down for promotion), and they could be right. "The Show" may have been a better option to go with, followed by "Biology" and "Whole Lotta History". If the rumours of either a "See The Day" or "I'll Stand By You" release are true, alienate them now, not only will neither of these songs do well, I can guarantee that the very loyal Australian fan base will be angry, judging by the 40 odd emails I've gotten through my website from them complaining at the news "I'll Stand By You" may be a single.

Over in the UK, The Girls recently - right after they returned from their Australian visit - told Top Of The Pops Online that, and I quote from Sarah, "We're planning a tour of Australia and New Zealand for next year. We intend to be together for quite a while." So if this is going to happen - and by god we, the fans, want to see them back here next year to do this tour - some better promotion needs to get underway for the singles and album. The girls were recording a 6 part documentary to be screened in the UK whilst they were down Under. This documentary could be perfect promotion for the girls if it were offered to a free to air network here in Australia, following the launch of a second single, which should really be "The Show" or "Whole Lotta History".

The girls have a strong fan base here, and the news of the promotional tour caused so much excitement, so you cannot really blame any of us when we complain that it's been a bit of a let down to see how it all unravelled.

Also, the club mix of "Biology" found on the CD single, although it's really quite brilliant, is not being played in clubs across the country. I've spoken to a few high profile DJs about this and it's simply come down to there not being any good house or electro remixes of the track. It's just too fast for Australian clubs. Why not get Aussie remixers on board for the next single (seeing as it is obviously a lost cause and too late for "Biology"), such as Goodwill, TV Rock (who currently have the Number #1 single in Australia), James Ash from The Rogue Traders or even John Course. Something to think about - I can bet my life that if there had been an Australian produced House remix of "Biology" it would be in the top 10 by now.

I look forward to your reply on the matter.

--
Regards,
Adem Ali.

Wonder if we'll get a half decent reply or just some crock of absolute cow-udders proclaiming that there wasn't much else they could do. We'll keep you posted...

xxx IAR.

Today...

...we'll be contacting Universal Music Australia and Universal Music in the UK.

This means of contact will be to discuss the absolute shamozel that was the girls' Australian promotional tour.

All of your comments and emails offering amazing ideas for the girls have been noted and a couple of them will be included during the event today.

We'll let you know when it's all complete and shall post the letter online for you.

xx IAR.

Week #2...

#30.

Unacceptable Australia. What a miserable day.

Sheep Aloud

Oh dear.

We just got our SIXTEENTH email, sent from various concerned Girls Aloud fans in Australia, announcing how heartbroken they all are that "Biology" only debuted at Number #26 this week.

While we're just as upset as yourselves, and even about as upset as the wondrous Mr. Fop is, let us take into consideration a few important things.

1. The Girls arrive in Australia on Friday. So really, the girls didn't have an ample amount of time with their promotional work to have a serious impact on the charts, hence the #26.

3. OMGLOLLOLOL!!111!!ONE!! - I can't believe we are actually having proper popstars in our country again - however, the importance of this event can't be overstressed - hopefully, the girls are here TO WORK and will do some amazing things.

However, Claire and I have prepared a short media guide for hopefully the bank of newspaper and radio people who attend - read the rules, and follow them meedja people! We posted this before on our own Liz, but really, it's a good guide, and no one reads our Liz, and since this is the resource point, it's time for a refresher course!

"Thankyou for attending todays media gathering/event/koala hugging photo opportunity involving the British Girl Band Girls Aloud - please find attached a specially prepared media guide for the event

#1. Contrary to the impression you may have got from the enclosed photos, the bands leader is actually Nicola. I realise that in some photos, all you can see is a wisp of hair, but this is just a ploy and an example of her selflessness. In fact, it is band policy that all initial questions be directed at Nicola, who you will find an expansive and intriguing individual with a lot to say. Ask her anything, from her views on the history of Jewish Repatriation, to the chances of Liverpool retaining the Champions League, and she will astound you with her wit - you should phrase your questions to her along the lines of "Nicola, as band leader..."

#2 - Please also follow this policy of referring to Nicola as the band leader and asking her all first questions also when considering who gets to hold the koala, who gets to be held in the air by 5 lifesavers, who gets to kick the footy etc.

#3 - Now THAT is out of the way, here are the remaining rules - firstly, in accordance with the Darryl Somers Law, you can ask once (AND ONLY once) "How do you like Australia" - in some markets, you can adapt this to "How do you like (insert place here)", but spend it wisely.

#4 - Girls Aloud are a Seminal, important Pop band - please, if you are attending this event, please have sent your best man/woman, if you have sent the "humorous" breakfast jokers who will giggle like Beavis and Butthead, and say "Hey, you aren't the Spice Girls!" or "Tweedy Pie" "Or what is it you have to do to see the Show, buy a showbag, fnuh, fnuh", your accreditation will be removed - Nova, if you've sent Dave O'Neill, you will be banned from all future events.

#5 - Importantly, Girls Aloud are NOT "Britains answer to anyone" - they are not Britains answer to the Pussycat Dolls (Wilkins, I'm looking at YOU!) or Bardot or anyone - they are Girls Aloud, any other explanation is bogus, and will make you look stupid.

#6 - Odd as it may seem to some of your journalists, actually seeing proper pop stars in glamorous outfits shouldn't scare you - it's just that some countries still do make Pop stars. I realise it's a mad, crazy idea here in Australia, just a pipe dream really, but one day, if we club together, our "pop" industry might not be a complete embarrassment - in fact, you might like to ask one of them (I don't know - Nicola maybe?) how we might get better at Pop?

#7 - It's important to realise that Jump, their only Australian hit, is their worst song, so don't bring it up, K? In fact, why not suggest some much better cover versions for them to do (like Ricochets, or Take It From Me?) - bringing up Jump will again make you look a twat, especially if you ask what it was like working with Hugh Grant.

#8 - Yes, Girls Aloud did come from a reality TV show - do NOT use this as an excuse to drag out our horrendous collection of god awful reality TV show winners and contestants - Girls Aloud are far too important and wonderful to be dragged next to Lee "Hardcore" Harding - again,

#9 - As far as the individual members go (ONLY when you have finished questioning Nicola) - don't ask Cheryl anything about thumping that bird, or her engagement, or anything too controversial really - it's not a record company thing, it's for your own safety, so you don't get a mardy slap. Don't bring up that whole thing about Nadine lying about her age on Irish Popstars, Sarahs drinking problem, or ask if Kimberley Walsh is related to Mike Walsh ("Dave O'Neill? Get OUT NOW!") - Tweedy is DYING to give someone a big mardy slap, so don't let it be you! Treat them with the utmost respect, ask proper questions, and we'll all get along fine!

#10 - But really don't bring up Jump

See - easy!

Alyson

Extra! The girls return to the Australian airwaves with one of the best pop tracks of some time....with a chorus that doesn't quit, try and resist this! From the girls' 3rd album 'Chemisty'.

And to boot, we've been informed that Mr Richard "Dick" Wilkins may have mentioned something about the Girls coming to Oz on Friday's TODAY show. This is all great news, but if we want the girls to have their first proper hit in this country, we need to start requesting the song on radio and television. Click here to read the media listing to obtain numbers and website URL's for your local radio station. ALL SANITY STORES DO NOT CONTRIBUTE TO THE CHART, however their websites sales do.

Speaking of which, you can pre-order Biology on the Sanity.com.au website here.

And you'll all be pleased to know that the single gets its release in Oz on February the 20th.

1. And to make it all the more amazing, they're releasing arguably their best single to date in the early stages of February.

As of today, we're starting the Australian Biology-watch. We'll keep you updated on what stations are playing the song, whether TV have embraced them, and hopefully, what the girls promotional schedule will be whilst they're visiting us down under.

NOW... There's a way you (yes, YOU!) can help make "Biology" quite the hit single.

"But the single isn't out yet, how on earth am I going to do that?" we hear you cry.

Easy. You just need to exercise your right as an Australian to request/vote for new music on your local/more desired radio station. Below is a list of stations and such that you can call/text/etc to vote and/or request Biology right now... More stations will be added over the next week...

NATIONAL
Hot 30 Countdown
